The Morning After Pill

South Avenue Women’s Services offers two emergency contraception options.

The Morning After Pill

The Morning After Pill, also referred to as emergency contraception, prevents the attachment of an egg to the uterine walls and prevents pregnancy from occurring. Some versions of the pill may also prevent the ovaries from releasing the egg.

  • The morning after pill is not an abortion, it is complete pregnancy prevention.

It should be taken within 12 hours of unprotected intercourse for best results, however, the pill has been proven to work up to 72 hours.

The French Abortion Pill

The French abortion pill, also referred to as RU-486 or Mifepristone, is a safe, effective alternative to ending a pregnancy for up to 9 weeks after conception.

  • The French abortion pill can be prescribed and taken in the privacy of your home without the need for a surgical procedure.

Whether your need is to discuss pregnancy prevention through the Morning After Pill or pregnancy termination using the French Abortion Pill, South Avenue Women’s Services are available.

We pride ourselves on providing the information, counseling, and services you need to make the decisions that are right for you.
